Background
In November 2006 the Board of Directors of the Waterloo Historical Society made an agreement with the Kitchener Public Library Foundation to honor long-time KPL local historian, archivist and WHS director Susan J. Hoffman. The WHS made an inaugural $1,000 donation and will consider annually its contribution level to the fund. In 2015, the Kitchener Public Library assumed responsibility for all library fundraising. A revised agreement was signed at that time.
Susan J. Hoffman
Susan joined the staff of KPL in 1976 and began working with Grace Schmidt in the library’s local history department. In 1984 the WHS partnered with the library to open the Grace Schmidt Room of Local History. Along with honoring Grace Schmidt, who had retired in 1980, it spoke to the high regard the local history collections enjoyed in the Region of Waterloo.
